On the Role of Saffman Force in Inertial Microfluidics Authorized by Mergen H Ghayesh Small-scale electromechanical devices have a great potential to revolutionize many existing fields of technologies [1]. A wide range of promising applications of these devices has recently been reported. These applications include but not limited to cell manipulation, energy harvesting, structural reinforcements, cancer diagnosis, mass sensing and drug delivery [2-5]. Small-scale electromechanical devices [6,7] are generally fabricated using microscale/nanoscale structural components involving microscale/ nanoscale beams [8-20], plates [21-28] and shells [29,30] as well as nanotubes [31-33] and fluid-conveying nanotubes [34-36]. A Finite Element Study of The Elastic Properties of a Cracked Cellular Structure with Trapezoidal Beams Authorized by Liankun Wang The elastic properties of a cracked cellular structure of close-to-zero Poisson’s ratio with trapezoidal beams are studied by the finite element method in this paper. The effects of the crack length and crack angle on the non-dimensional equivalent modulus, including elastic moduli in the x-direction, y-direction, and the shear moduli are analyzed. The numerical results indicate that the degree of reduction in the non-dimensional equivalent modulus due to the crack depends on the crack angle and length. Solving the Non-Damped Oscillatory Problem with Random Loading Conditions using WHE Technique Authorized by Amnah S Al Juhani The spectral techniques for solving the stochastic differential equations (SDEs) are efficient compared with other techniques. They can be used to obtain analytical solutions specially in case of linear SDEs. Among which, the Wiener-Hermite expansion (WHE) and the Winer Chaos expansion (WCE) are the most common. WHE is more efficient as it depends directly on a basis that is directly dependent on the noise process. It can be used efficiently when the SDE is forced by additive and/or multiplicative noise. Evidence of Electron Charging Induced Alternating Currents in Nanopillar Transistor Authorized by Yue Min Wan Study of electron charging in nanopillar transistor at 300K shows that elastic vibration is an automatic behavior in the device. The frequency observed in the drain-source current is found to agree with the charging frequency. Given a quantum dot of size ~10x10x9nm3, the maximum displacement estimated is 0.3nm. Once the displacement diminishes to zero, single-electron tunnel dominates the I-V. A forced vibration model is proposed to explain the correlation between surface charges and vibrations. When the distribution of charges is uniformly on each SiNx atom, vibration becomes stable and can yield homogenous damping current.
